GOST 10704 35

GOST 10704 Grade 35 Pipe is an electric-welded steel pipe manufactured from Grade 35 non-alloy quality structural steel. GOST 10704-91 specifies the dimensional range of the welded pipe, while the chemical composition and mechanical properties of Grade 35 steel are governed by the applicable material standard, such as GOST 1050-2013.

GOST 10704 35 Chemical Composition

GOST 10704 Grade 35 (Сталь 35) is a high-quality non-alloy structural steel in the Russian/former Soviet Union standards system. It is a medium-carbon steel, and the “35” in the grade designation typically corresponds to a carbon content of approximately 0.35%.

According to GOST 1050-2013, the primary chemical composition requirements for Grade 35 are as follows:

Element Content, %
C 0.32–0.40
Si 0.17–0.37
Mn 0.50–0.80
P ≤ 0.030
S ≤ 0.035
Cr ≤ 0.25
Ni ≤ 0.30
Cu ≤ 0.30

Mechanical Properties of GOST 10704 Grade 35 Steel

Grade 35 (Сталь 35) is a non-alloy quality structural steel grade specified under the GOST 1050 standard system. According to GOST 1050-2013, the mechanical properties of Grade 35, when determined on normalized specimens, are specified as minimum values.

PropertyMinimum Value
Yield Strength315 MPa
Tensile Strength530 MPa
Elongation20%
Reduction of Area45%

These values correspond to the Grade 35 requirements listed in Table 4 of GOST 1050-2013 for normalized specimens. The standard lists the values as minimum requirements: yield strength of 315 N/mm², tensile strength of 530 N/mm², elongation of 20%, and reduction of area of 45%.

What Do These Properties Mean?

Yield Strength – 315 MPa:This indicates the minimum stress at which Grade 35 begins to undergo permanent plastic deformation.

Tensile Strength – 530 MPa:This is the minimum tensile stress specified before the material reaches its ultimate tensile strength.

Elongation – 20%:This indicates the material’s ability to deform plastically before fracture.

Reduction of Area – 45%:This measures the reduction in cross-sectional area at the fracture location and provides an indication of ductility.

Important Note for GOST 10704 Grade 35 Pipe

The above values should be presented as Grade 35 material properties under GOST 1050-2013, rather than automatically treating them as universal mechanical-property requirements for every GOST 10704 Grade 35 pipe.

The actual mechanical properties of a finished GOST 10704 Grade 35 steel pipe can depend on factors such as:

  • pipe manufacturing process;
  • steel product form;
  • heat treatment or delivery condition;
  • pipe dimensions;
  • applicable technical requirements;
  • agreed customer or project specifications.

GOST 1050-2013 also allows, by agreement between the manufacturer and purchaser, a 20 MPa reduction in the minimum tensile-strength requirement for certain grades including Grade 35, provided the elongation requirement is simultaneously increased by 2 percentage points.

According to GOST 1050-2013, Grade 35 steel has a minimum yield strength of 315 MPa, a minimum tensile strength of 530 MPa, a minimum elongation of 20%, and a minimum reduction of area of 45% when tested on normalized specimens

GOST 10704 Grade 35 Pipe Dimensions

GOST 10704-91 specifies the dimensional range of electric-welded longitudinal-seam steel pipes.

For a Grade 35 steel pipe, the pipe dimensions are selected according to the GOST 10704-91 size range, while Grade 35 identifies the steel material used to manufacture the pipe..

1,420 mm According to GOST size range According to the selected WT

* The theoretical weight varies with outside diameter and wall thickness. GOST 10704-91 calculates theoretical mass using a steel density of 7.85 g/cm³.

Pipe Length

GOST 10704-91 also defines different length categories. For non-measured length, the minimum length depends on pipe diameter: at least 2 m for OD up to 30 mm, 3 m for OD over 30 to 70 mm, 4 m for OD over 70 to 152 mm, and 5 m for OD over 152 mm.

For measured-length pipes, the standard specifies different ranges according to diameter, including 5–9 m for pipes up to 70 mm, 6–9 m for pipes over 70 to 219 mm, and 10–12 m for pipes over 219 to 426 mm; pipes above 426 mm are generally supplied in non-measured lengths under the standard provisions.

GOST 10704 Grade 35 Pipe Applications

GOST 10704 Grade 35 pipe combines the dimensional flexibility of electric-welded pipe with the strength and machinability of Grade 35 steel. It is mainly used in general engineering, machinery manufacturing and fabricated steel components.

General Engineering

Used for general-purpose mechanical and industrial components requiring moderate strength and good machinability.

Machinery Manufacturing

Suitable for machine frames, equipment components, supports and other tubular mechanical parts.

Structural Components

Used for steel supports, frames, brackets and fabricated structures where the specified mechanical properties and dimensions meet project requirements.
Industrial Fabrication

Available in various diameters and wall thicknesses under GOST 10704-91, Grade 35 pipe can be cut, welded, machined and fabricated into customized components.

Note: For pressure, pipeline or other critical applications, additional product standards and project-specific requirements should be considered rather than relying on Grade 35 alone.
