MS Material Full Form

MS material full form: Mild Steel material.

MS material is a technical term in the steel industry, where MS stands for Mild Steel. Carbon steel with a carbon content typically ranging from 0.05% to 0.25% is classified as low-carbon steel. This type of steel exhibits excellent plasticity, toughness, and weldability. These properties make it the most widely used steel grade.

Its characteristics also include:

  • Yield strength: ≥ 250 MPa
  • Tensile strength: 400–550 MPa
  • Elongation: ≥ 20%–25%
  • Density: ≈ 7.85 g/cm³
  • Melting point: 1420–1460 °C

It possesses good thermal conductivity and is suitable for welding and heat treatment. Below are some differences compared to medium-carbon steel:

Medium-carbon steel carbon content: 0.25%–0.60%; Yield strength: 350–700 MPa; Tensile strength: 500–900 MPa; Elongation: 10–20%. Data indicates medium-carbon steel offers superior strength but lower ductility and weldability, making welding more challenging. MS material demonstrates more pronounced advantages in welded steel pipes.
