API 5CT P110 is a high-grade casing and tubing material specified in the API Spec 5CT standard, featuring high yield strength, high collapse resistance, and high burst resistance. It is one of the typical high-strength OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) grades used in the oil and gas industry.
It is widely used in deep wells, ultra-deep wells, high-pressure wells, and HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) conditions.

The strength of P110 is significantly higher than that of other steel grades in API 5CT, resulting in markedly superior collapse resistance and burst resistance.
API 5CT P110 is currently one of the most widely used high-strength OCTG (Oil Country Tubular Goods) grades in deep-well and high-pressure oil and gas development worldwide.
Compared to conventional grades such as J55, N80, and L80, the core value of P110 lies in its ability to provide greater structural integrity and pressure-bearing capacity in high-pressure, deep-well, and HPHT (High Pressure High Temperature) environments.
High Collapse Resistance
In deep well environments, casing is subjected to immense external pressure from the formation over extended periods. As well depth increases, formation stress, wellbore loads, and the weight of the casing string all rise rapidly.
If the casing lacks sufficient resistance to external pressure, collapse failure is likely to occur.
P110 vs J55/N80/L80/T95
| Grade | Min Yield Strength |
| J55 | 379 MPa |
| N80 | 552 MPa |
| L80 | 552 MPa |
| T95 | 655 MPa |
| P110 | 758 MPa |
The higher yield strength of P110 means that the casing maintains greater structural stability under high external pressure, thereby significantly improving the Collapse Rating and the Deep Well Safety Margin.
High Burst Strength
P110 offers significant advantages in high-pressure applications. In high-pressure oil production operations, casing must withstand extremely high internal pressures; if the internal pressure becomes too high, burst failure can occur.
P110 provides superior:
API 5CT P110 is a typical HPHT well-grade steel. After undergoing quenching and tempering, it achieves a more stable microstructure and higher high-temperature strength.
P110 maintains superior structural stability under high-temperature and high-pressure conditions. As a result, it is widely used in complex operating environments such as high-temperature, high-pressure oil and gas wells, deep-sea oil and gas development, and shale oil and gas development.
The API does not specify the full chemical composition for P110 as strictly as it does for structural steel.

| C | 0.22–0.35% |
| Mn | 1.0–1.9% |
| Cr | 0.3–1.0% |
| Mo | 0.2–0.3% |
| Si | 0.2–0.4% |

| S | ≤0.030% |
1. Deep Oil Wells
Typical depth: 3,000–7,000 m.
Many deep well projects use P110 HC (High Collapse).
2. Shale Gas Wells
In shale gas development: due to extremely high fracturing pressures and long horizontal well lengths, the following are widely used:
P110 casing
P110 tubing
3. HPHT Wells
The most distinctive feature of HPHT wells is the coupling of multiple loads.
Common conditions in HPHT wells:
| Condition | Typical Value |
| Pressure | >10,000 psi |
| Temperature | >150°C |
API 5CT P110 has a yield strength (σy) of ≥758 MPa, offering significant advantages in deep wells (3,000 m+), deepwater wells, shale gas wells, and extended-reach wells.
ALLLAND Steel Pipe guarantees the reliability of P110 in deep wells and HPHT operating conditions.
In high-temperature environments, the yield strength of steel decreases. For P110:
When T > 150°C, a yield reduction of 5–8% typically occurs; therefore, room-temperature strength values cannot be used directly in design.

Perform high-temperature derating during the design phase.
2. P110 HC (High Collapse)
The core logic behind HC
achieves
· Lower ovality
· Lower wall thickness eccentricity
· Stricter dimensional control
to enhance the actual collapse rating.
Many HC products offer a 15% to 30% improvement in collapse performance compared to standard P110 without increasing wall thickness.
ALLLAND Steel Pipe features
· Advanced OD Control
· Tight Wall Thickness Tolerance
· Better Ovality Control
· Improved Straightness
The main difference is strength and sour service capability.
| Grade | Yield Strength | Sour Service | Typical Application |
| L80 | 552 MPa | Yes | H₂S wells |
| P110 | 758 MPa | Limited | Deep high-pressure wells |
API 5CT P110 provides higher strength and better collapse performance, while L80 offers better resistance to sulfide stress cracking (SSC).
Standard API 5CT P110 is generally not recommended for sour service environments containing H₂S because high-strength steel grades are more susceptible to:
For sour service wells, L80, T95, or C110 are usually preferred.
In API 5CT P110:
110 ksi≈758 MPa
The “110” refers to the minimum yield strength of the steel pipe, which is 110 ksi (758 MPa). P110 belongs to the high-strength grades in the API 5CT standard.
