GOST 10705 is the Russian standard specifying technical requirements for resistance-welded steel pipes. It covers pipes and resistance-welded steel pipes made of non-alloy steel and fine-grained steel for general purposes, primarily used in low- and medium-pressure transmission systems and structural applications.
The standard explicitly states that it does not apply to steel pipes manufactured for use in thermal power generators.

GOST 10705 does not specify specific steel grades; instead, it refers to the Russian steel classification system: GOST 380 (ordinary carbon structural steel) and GOST 1050 (high-quality carbon steel).
| Grade(GOST) | Sources of Steel Systems | Strength Classification | Approx. Equivalent |
| St2sp | GOST 380 | Low strength | ASTM A53 Gr.B / EN S235 |
| St2ps | GOST 380 | Low strength | ASTM A53 Gr.B |
| St3sp ⭐ | GOST 380 | Medium strength | ASTM A53 Gr.B / EN S235JR |
| St3ps ⭐ | GOST 380 | Medium strength | ASTM A53 Gr.B |
| Steel 10 | GOST 1050 | Low-to-medium strength | EN S275JR(approx) |
| Steel 20 ⭐ | GOST 1050 | Medium-to-high strength | ASTM A53 Gr.B / A106 Gr.B |
| St4 | GOST 380 | Medium-high level strength | EN S235 / S275(approx) |
St3sp / St3ps is the most widely used grade under GOST 10705. It offers good overall performance at a low cost and is the most common steel grade in international trade and exports.
It is generally used in water supply pipelines, gas transmission pipelines, and general-purpose structural pipelines.
Steel 20 is very common in industrial pipelines; it has higher strength than St3 and better pressure resistance, making it suitable for medium- and low-pressure systems.
Its chemical composition depends on the applicable steel grade standard, typically GOST 380 or GOST 1050.
Chemical composition of common steel grades:
| Grade | Elements(%) | ||||
| C | Mn | Si | P | S | |
| St3sp / St3ps | ≤ 0.20 | 0.40 – 0.65 | ≤ 0.30 | ≤ 0.040 | ≤ 0.050 |
| Steel grade 10 | 0.07 – 0.14 | 0.35 – 0.65 | ≤ 0.17 – 0.30 | ≤ 0.035 | ≤ 0.040 |
| Steel grade 20 | 0.17 – 0.24 | 0.35 – 0.65 | 0.17 – 0.37 | ≤ 0.035 | ≤ 0.040 |
| Grade | Re / Yield Strength (MPa) | Rm / Tensile Strength (MPa) | A / Elongation (%) | Strength Classification |
| St2sp / St2ps | ≥ 195 | 320 – 440 | ≥ 24 | Low |
| St3sp / St3ps | ≥ 235 | 370 – 480 | ≥ 22 | Medium(Mainstream Grade) |
| Steel 10 | ≥ 245 | 340 – 470 | ≥ 24 | Low-to-Medium |
| Steel 20 | 245 – 355 | 410 – 540 | ≥ 21 | Medium-to-High |
| St4 | ≥ 255 | 420 – 540 | ≥ 20 | Moderately High |
The GOST 10705 standard specifies clear requirements for the quality of pipe end machining.
(1) Plain Ends (PE)
(2) Beveled Ends (BE): Common bevel angles range from 30° to 35°
(3) End-capped / Plastic-capped
(4) Threaded Ends
The ends of the pipes must be cut at right angles, and any internal or external burrs must be removed.
The end faces of the steel pipes must be perpendicular to the axis. Deviation is generally limited to ≤ 1.0–1.5 mm, depending on the pipe diameter.
The steel pipes covered by GOST 10705 are general-purpose industrial pipes and are the preferred choice in Russia for non-specialized, non-ultra-high-pressure applications.

GOST 10705 is the core general technical specification standard in Russia for resistance-welded steel pipes made of non-alloy steel and fine-grained carbon steel; it specifies the materials, manufacturing processes, mechanical properties, and inspection requirements for these pipes.
It covers electric resistance welded pipes and high-frequency welded pipes; this standard does not apply to LSAW pipes (longitudinally submerged arc welded pipes), SSAW pipes (spiral submerged arc welded pipes), or seamless pipes.
No.
GOST 10705 is suitable for general-purpose pipelines for medium and low pressure.
