GOST stands for Gosudarstvennyy Standart, originally established during the Soviet era. It was primarily developed to address extreme climatic conditions and complex national projects. This is also the key distinction between GOST and standards like API/ASTM/JIS: GOST products can operate in sub-zero temperatures (-40°C or lower) and withstand ultra-long-distance transmission. 

The standard places greater emphasis on structural reliability and safety. GOST standards are not reference standards but market access requirements, and they remain in use across many Russian regions today.

GOST 8732 —— Standard for Hot-Rolled Seamless Steel Pipes

Characteristics: The standard for seamless steel pipes in Russia and the CIS region, primarily involving hot-rolled steel pipes. Their uniform stress distribution enables use in critical applications such as pressure vessels and structural engineering.

Specifications:

  • Outer Diameter Range: Ø20 mm to Ø530 mm
  • Wall Thickness Range: 2.5 mm to 75 mm
  • Steel Grades: 10, 20, 15, 09G2S, 17G1S, 16GS

GOST 10704 —— Welded Pipes

Characteristics: Manufactured using the ERW process, this standard features a wide range of outer diameters and wall thicknesses with clearly defined dimensional tolerances. However, it does not specify direct material requirements and can be used in conjunction with other standards.

  • Outer Diameter Range: Ø10 mm to Ø1420 mm
  • Wall Thickness Range: 1.0 mm to 32 mm
