A greenhouse is an environmentally controlled structure used for agricultural production that effectively regulates humidity and temperature inside the structure, thereby ensuring optimal crop growth. It consists of semi-transparent plastic film or glass, as well as a steel pipe frame. The steel pipes used in greenhouses are made of steel pipes or structural steel and must possess sufficient load-bearing capacity to support their own weight and wind loads. They form the core of the greenhouse and determine its service life. As a professional supplier of steel pipes, ALLLAND offers high-quality pipes that far exceed the standard specifications for typical greenhouse applications.

Precautions for Greenhouse Frame Structures:
Classification of Greenhouse Structures
Based on greenhouse structure, the pipes used in greenhouses are primarily classified as follows: Arch Pipes: used for the arched framework of greenhouses; Column Pipes: used to support the main structure; Beam Pipes: used to enhance overall stability; and Brace Pipes: used to improve wind resistance.
The dimensions of greenhouse pipes are relatively standardized, with common specifications as follows:
| O.D.(mm) | W.T.(mm) | Length(m) | Applications |
| 20~32 | 0.8~1.2 | 6、7、8 | Lightweight frames |
| 40~60 | 1.0~2.0 | 6、8、12 | Main frames for medium-sized greenhouses |
| 60~89 | 1.2~2.5 | 8、10、12 | Support pipes for large-span multi-span greenhouses |
Because different parts of the greenhouse are subjected to varying stresses, the cross-sectional shapes of the steel pipes used must meet specific requirements.
| Steel Pipe Types | Common Sizes (mm) | Wall Thickness (mm) | Primary Applications |
| Round Pipe | Φ32、Φ25、Φ22 | ≥1.5 | Arch tubes (main arches), end posts, longitudinal tie rods, and diagonal braces. These components account for the largest portion of usage. |
| Oval Pipe | 25×50 | ≥1.5 | In high-end single-span greenhouses, arch tubes offer greater bending resistance than round tubes and provide a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. |
| Square/Rectangular Pipe | 70×50、50×50、50×30 | 2.0-2.5 | In multi-span greenhouses, they serve as primary load-bearing components such as main columns, secondary columns, and gutter supports. Thicker wall thicknesses are required to ensure the overall structural stability. |
Performance Requirements for Greenhouse Pipe
Mechanical Properties
Actual mechanical properties vary depending on the material of the steel tube.
Greenhouse steel tubes must withstand the weight of the greenhouse covering film and external natural loads. Generally, the mechanical properties should meet the following requirements: yield strength: ≥195–235 MPa; tensile strength: ≥270–400 MPa.
Actual mechanical properties vary depending on the material of the steel pipe.
Corrosion Resistance
Given the high temperature and humidity inside greenhouses, hot-dip galvanized steel pipes must be used, with a zinc coating thickness of ≥45 μm. Hot-dip galvanizing differs from cold galvanizing or electrogalvanizing, offering a service life of 10–20 years.
Weather Resistance
Hot-dip galvanizing combined with sufficient zinc coating thickness is required. For example, the average zinc coating thickness on critical components (main arches, columns) should be ≥ 70 μm, while ordinary components should not be less than 45 μm, ensuring sufficient resistance to wind loads, snow loads, and prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Steel Pipe Solutions for Greenhouses
1.Simple Arch Greenhouse (Tunnel Greenhouse)
This greenhouse structure is relatively simple, typically with spans ranging from 6 to 40 meters, and requires a low investment. For the main arch, Φ20–32 mm × 0.8–1.2 mm steel pipes can be selected, paired with Φ16–25 mm round pipes for use as tie rods and diagonal braces.
2. Solar Greenhouse (Chinese Greenhouse)
This greenhouse type features a single-wall, single-slope structure with excellent thermal insulation properties and is commonly used in northern China.
The main arch frame can utilize Φ25–40 mm × 1.2–1.8 mm steel pipes, paired with Φ40–60 mm pipes as support beams.
3. Multi-span Greenhouse
Multi-span greenhouses are currently the most in-demand type in agricultural projects. They form large-scale greenhouse systems by connecting multiple single-span greenhouses through shared columns and roof structures, and are widely used in large-scale vegetable cultivation, flower nurseries, and similar settings.
Due to their large spans, load-bearing capacity and service life must be considered when selecting steel pipes. Hot-dip galvanizing is mandatory for surface treatment to meet corrosion resistance and weather resistance requirements.
As the primary load-bearing component, we recommend Φ60–89 mm × 2.0–3.0 mm steel pipes or 60×60 / 80×80 square tubes for the main columns.
For the main beams, we recommend Φ50–80 mm × 1.5–2.5 mm steel pipes.
