ALLLAND Boiler Steel Pipe Supply
ASTM A500 Grade A
Welcome to ALLLAND. Our ASTM A500 Grade A structural steel tubes are manufactured in strict accordance with ASTM International standards using advanced cold-formed welding processes. Our product range includes square tubes (SHS), rectangular tubes (RHS), and round tubes (Round HSS), among other types. This material is a low-carbon structural steel that offers excellent weldability, formability, and consistent mechanical properties. It is suitable for light-duty structures, building frames, support members, and general engineering applications.

ASTM A500 is a standard specification established by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) that defines the technical requirements for cold-formed, hot-formed, welded, or seamless structural steel tubes, including circular, square, and rectangular shapes.
ASTM A500/A500M is the most commonly used specification for hollow structural sections (HSS) in North America. The ASTM A500 standard comprises four grades: Grade A, Grade B, Grade C, and Grade D. Grade A is a steel grade within ASTM A500, primarily intended for general structural applications. It specifies the minimum yield strength, tensile strength, and ductility requirements for steel tubes of this grade.

W.T.:
1.5 mm – 25 mm; Common market thicknesses: 2.0 – 6.0 mm

Mechanical Properties for ASTM A500 Gr.A
Mechanical properties refer to how a material behaves under different external forces, including yield strength, tensile strength, elongation (ductility), and hardness.
| Round Structural Tube | Shaped Structural Tube | |
| Tensile strength, mn, ps (MPa) | 45 000 (310) | 45 000 (310) |
| Yield strength, mn, psi (MPa) | 33 000 (228) | 39000 (269) |
| Elongation in 2 in. (50.8 mm), min, %A | 25B | 25B |
Compared to other grades in the ASTM A500, Grade A exhibits the highest tensile elongation(25%), followed by Grade B (23%) and Grade C (21%).
In other words, Grade A material is relatively “softer” and easier to process. If your project involves cold bending, flanging, or flaring, you may want to consider Grade A.
Chemical Requirements for ASTM A500 Gr.A
| Elements | Chemical Composition Range |
| Carbon (C),max | 0.26 |
| Manganese (Mn),max | 1.35 |
| Phosphorus (P),max | 0.035% |
| Sulfur (S),max | 0.035 |
| Copper(Cu), when copper steel is specified, min | 0.02 |
Grade A has the lowest tensile strength and yield strength among ASTM A500 grades. It is suitable for projects with low strength requirements or for non-load-bearing structural components.

| WT | >90% | ||
| Square and Rectangular Tube | H ≤Hmm | ±0.5 mm | |

ASTM A500 Grade A Advantages and Applications
A500 Grade A Advantages
Excellent Formability
With higher elongation, Grade A easily handles cold forming, cutting, drilling, and welding.
Reliable Weldability
All ASTM A500 grades (A, B, C, D) weld well, but Grade A has lower carbon content and strength, making it softer.
Cost Efficiency
Lower alloy content reduces production costs.
A500 Grade A Advantages
