HSS Steel Meaning
HSS steel has two meanings. In the steel pipe industry, HSS steel meaning eHollow Structural Section. In the cutting tool and machinery industry, HSS imeaning High-Speed Steel.
HSS steel meaning: Hollow Structural Section, primarily used for load-bearing structural steel pipes. It comes in three types: Square HSS, Rectangular HSS, and Circular HSS. HSS steel can be produced via cold forming or hot forming, adhering to standards such as A500 or EN 10219. Manufactured from low-carbon steel or low-alloy steel, it offers excellent weldability, ductility, and strength to meet engineering requirements.
HSS: High-Speed Steel, a high-alloy tool steel. Due to its stable performance and hardness under high-speed operation, it is commonly used for cutting tools such as drill bits and turning tools. High-Speed Stee contains 10%-20% alloy content, with primary chemical elements including W, Mo, and Co. These elements enhance High-Speed Steel hardness, wear resistance, red hardness, and toughness.
