steel water pipe

Steel water pipes are commonly seen in our daily lives. They are manufactured using carbon steel as the base material through processes such as ERW, LSAW, or SMLS. These pipes can undergo internal and external anti-corrosion treatment and possess excellent sealing properties. Common applications include municipal water supply, long-distance water transmission, and industrial water conveyance. Among these, large-diameter pipes produced via LSAW are particularly well-suited for use as water transmission pipes.

Different Steel Water Pipe Applications

Municipal Water Supply pipe

Responsible for the city’s main water supply network, these pipes have moderate pressure requirements. Sizes range from DN200 to DN2000, enabling high flow rates and suitability for long-distance installation. Made of carbon steel, they offer greater pressure resistance than plastic pipes.

Water Transmission Pipe

Transports water from reservoirs, rivers, and other sources to water treatment plants, requiring cross-regional conveyance through complex terrain and environments. Water transmission pipes demand robust structural integrity to withstand foundation shifts and possess impact resistance. Typically manufactured using the LSAW process.

Industrial Water Systems

Used in industrial production and water circulation systems. Pipes must possess adequate pressure resistance and fatigue endurance for sustained operation. These complex systems require precise dimensional accuracy for seamless connection to valves and other equipment.

FAQ

1. Steel Water Pipe vs Ductile Iron Pipe

Caliber Range: Steel Water Pipe can achieve ultra-large diameters and is lighter in weight, while Ductile Iron Pipe is limited to smaller diameters and is heavier.
Impact Resistance: Steel Water Pipe offers superior impact resistance, making it suitable for complex operating conditions, whereas Ductile Iron Pipe has average impact resistance.
Corrosion Resistance: Steel Water Pipe offers customizable coatings, while Ductile Iron Pipe relies more heavily on internal linings.
Pressure Rating: Steel Water Pipe is suitable for high-pressure or medium-to-high-pressure applications, whereas Ductile Iron Pipe is limited to medium-pressure systems.

2. Can steel water pipes rust?

Steel pipes inherently carry a risk of rusting. However, water supply pipelines typically incorporate mature corrosion protection systems that effectively prevent rust issues.

3. Can Steel Water Pipe be used for potable water?

Yes, provided it is coated with a compliant potable water coating—epoxy coating—it can be used for drinking water conveyance.
