Precision SSAW Steel Pipes
for Oil, Gas, Water & Piling

Produced from high-quality hot-rolled steel coil by spiral forming and double-sided submerged arc welding (SAW). The spiral seam provides excellent weld integrity, pressure performance, and cost-efficient large diameters. Each pipe undergoes 100% online UT of the spiral seam and hydrostatic testing; additional RT/UT can be arranged to API 5L / ISO 3183 and project requirements. Coating and lining options are available for long-term corrosion protection in oil & gas, water, and piling applications.

OD 219–2540 mm (8"–100") WT 5.0–25.4 mm (0.2"–1") Length 6–18 m (customizable) Grades B–X70 · PSL1/PSL2

Spiral-formed from hot-rolled coil with precise edge-milling for tight seam fit, roundness, and consistent helix angle.

Internal and external submerged arc welding (SAW) ensures full penetration and high weld strength across the entire spiral seam.

Each pipe undergoes 100% online ultrasonic (UT) testing and hydrostatic pressure testing to meet API 5L / ISO 3183 requirements.

Optional coatings and linings include FBE, 3LPE, 3LPP, bitumen enamel, internal epoxy, or cement mortar (AWWA C205).

Description

SSAW (Spiral Submerged Arc Welded) steel pipe is produced from high-quality hot-rolled steel coils through spiral forming and submerged arc welding. The helical seam distributes stress evenly, providing excellent pressure-bearing capacity and overall structural strength — ideal for large-diameter, medium/low-pressure transmission applications. Each SSAW steel pipe offers consistent performance and durability across a wide range of working conditions.

With wide specification range, high production efficiency, and cost competitiveness, SSAW steel pipe products are widely used in oil and gas gathering lines, water conservancy projects, municipal pipeline networks, building structural piles, bridge foundations, and various industrial fluid systems. All products strictly conform to API 5L, ASTM A252, EN 10219, and related international standards, ensuring stable and reliable performance that meets global engineering requirements.

Production Process

SSAW Steel Pipe Production Process

The SSAW production process involves continuous spiral forming of hot-rolled steel coils, followed by internal and external submerged arc welding (SAW). This method ensures full penetration, stable weld seams, and uniform strength distribution along the pipe. Continuous forming allows flexible diameter production, high efficiency, and consistent quality for oil, gas, water, and piling projects.

Main Applications

SSAW pipes are widely used in oil, gas, water, and structural projects—combining spiral forming, reliable weld seams, and cost-effective large-diameter supply for long-term performance.

Oil & Gas Transmission

Used for gathering, water injection, and low to medium pressure transmission pipelines requiring dependable weld strength and corrosion protection.

Water Infrastructure

Ideal for large-scale water supply, drainage, irrigation, and municipal pipeline networks demanding durability and smooth flow efficiency.

Structural Engineering

Applied in bridge foundations, piling works, wind tower columns, and heavy-duty structural supports requiring high load capacity.

Industrial Systems

Used in coal slurry, mine ventilation, HVAC, and industrial fluid transport lines exposed to pressure and wear.

Special Applications

Suitable for offshore protection casing, agricultural irrigation, and infrastructure requiring economical large-diameter pipes.

Advantages

  • Diameter Flexibility: Covers a wide range from 8" (219 mm) up to 100" (2540 mm) to meet large-scale project needs.
  • Economic Efficiency: Lower production cost compared with LSAW or seamless pipes at similar diameters.
  • Continuous Weld Strength: Spiral seam evenly distributes stress, providing uniform structural performance.
  • Rapid Production: Continuous coil forming enables high output and quick turnaround for bulk orders.
  • Load Adaptability: Performs reliably under varying ground or seismic conditions.
  • Material Utilization: Spiral forming minimizes waste and optimizes yield from hot-rolled coil feedstock.

Packing & Transportation

Due to their large diameter and weight, SSAW pipes are securely bundled with steel straps and protected at ends with plastic caps. Depending on order volume and shipment distance, several logistics methods are applied:

  • Container Shipping: Recommended for ≤6 m pipe lengths and small batch deliveries—safe and convenient for regional projects.
  • Bulk Carrier: Cost-effective for large-scale exports; pipes stacked with timber dunnage and protected against deformation.
  • Specialized Pipe Vessels: Ideal for long-distance, heavy-volume transport ensuring maximum safety and pipe integrity.
